Self-healing Clusters The basic structure of a network can be simple. In the figure below, five simple and relatively inexpensive sensor devices are networked together in a self-healing cluster, with the ability to transmit data within that cluster. Redundant links allow the cluster to be self-healing. The devices in the mesh network cluster can also interface with a larger, more expensive environmental monitoring station that has satellite communication capabilities. In this way, data can be collected from sensor devices in the field and transmitted over long distances to a data collection site for analysis.
