Mesh Network without Proprietary Infrastructure In some locations or for some applications, the existing communications infrastructure may be limited. In other cases, satellite communications may prove too expensive, or may not have the desired capacity for data transmission. In such cases, as illustrated below, a subnetwork of inexpensive sensor devices may use a connection to an available communications network, such as the internet or a cellular network, as the exclusive means for communication with an offsite host, without requiring a proprietary infrastructure for satellite communications.
